The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an INR 21 crore prize for the Indian team and support staff following India’s thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in the summit clash of the Asia Cup 2025 on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The announcement takes the total prize money awarded by the Indian board in the last three triumphant multi-team tournaments to a whopping INR 204 crore. The BCCI had announced a generous INR 125 crore prize after India’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which they clinched after beating South Africa in a nervy final in Barbados under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
India added another silverware to their growing cabinet as they secured the 2025 Champions Trophy earlier this year, defeating their thorny rivals, New Zealand, in Dubai. Following that win, the BCCI had announced an INR 58 crore reward for the winning team and support staff.
Speaking of India’s recent victory in the Asia Cup, it took their title tally in the tournament’s history to nine, extending their record of eight titles, easily the highest, with Sri Lanka being a distant second with six titles to their name.
India beat arch-rivals Pakistan in a nerve-jangling contest in Dubai, chasing the 147-run target on the back of Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69. Varma was well assisted by Shivam Dube (33 off 22) and Sanju Samson (24 off 21) after India endured a top-order meltdown with Abhishek Sharma, the tournament’s highest run-getter, falling cheaply alongside Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.
Tilak’s composure, however, stood out as he stitched two half-century partnerships with Samson and Dube to take India across the line. Varma and Samson added 57 runs off 50 balls in a consolidating fourth-wicket stand, while Varma joined hands with Dube for a momentum-shifting 40-ball 60-run alliance for the fifth wicket.
The BCCI announcement came amid nationwide celebrations. After the victory, the BCCI said, “3 blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Message delivered.”
