Overview
Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday, April 4.
As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh.
LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees in a separate offence, as he was found guilty for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants returned to winning ways as their bowlers’ spirited performance stopped the visitors 12 runs short of the 204-run target. Openers Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) and Aiden Markram (53 off 38) laid the foundation for a 200-plus total on a black-soil surface, and the blazing start was capitalised upon by Ayush Badoni and David Miller even as Nicholas Pooran and Pant failed to get going.
The quickfire cameos from Badoni (19-ball 30) and Miller (14-ball 27) ensured that the early momentum set by the openers was not squandered. With the ball, all of Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Digvesh returned with a wicket each, with Digvesh claiming the Player of the Match award for his economical spell of 1 for 21 in four overs.
LSG will fly to Kolkata for their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8 while Mumbai Indians will host Royal Challengers Bengaluru a day prior, on April 7.
