Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood believes his side will have to think on its feet during the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, admitting several unknown factors are heading into the contest.

Hazlewood, who missed Australia’s previous Test series against Bangladesh in 2017 and was also absent from the team’s white-ball tour of the country earlier this year, has faced the Tigers only nine times across his illustrious international career. As a result, the experienced seamer believes Australia may have to formulate bowling plans during the match rather than relying.
Hazlewood said the uncertainty surrounding the conditions and opposition makes the challenge even more exciting.
“There’s a lot of unknowns going in. You’ve got the ground, that’s an unknown. The wicket in particular, (and) the opposition in these conditions. So there are a lot of unknowns, but I think it’s exciting,” said Hazlewood while speaking on the Unplayable Podcast.
“There’s definitely footage and we can find some trends against these batters, but it might be a case of summing it up out there and coming up with plans on the run as well, which is always refreshing,” he continued.
The right-arm pacer is on the verge of another major career milestone, requiring just five more wickets to reach 300 Test scalps. However, Hazlewood insisted that success in the longest format largely depends on executing simple plans consistently over extended periods.
“It’s a pretty simple plan (for Test cricket). It’s just execution and it’s execution for a long period of time. Things might change a little bit out there as the day goes on or the game goes on, but in general, it’s a pretty simple game plan a lot of the time.”
“You have time to adapt out there. You might be halfway through your first spell and think, ‘Oh, let’s try this, let’s try that. In T20, you don’t have that time … if you’re a touch off, it’s six,” he concluded.
Australia will be aiming to continue their strong run in the World Test Championship when they take on Bangladesh in conditions expected to test both their batters and bowlers.
