Overview

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had two major setbacks in the last two games of the tournament. Despite the top-order struggles, SRH coach Daniel Vettori has said that the team will continue playing its aggressive style of batting.

SRH started the season with a bang, posting a massive total of 286 in their game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and winning convincingly. However, in the last two games, their batting has not shown the same consistency as in the first match. SRH head coach Daniel Vettori was asked whether the batters need to change their approach in the upcoming games. The former IPL 2011 finalist stated that there has been no discussion around that and explained what went wrong in the last game while highlighting how the top three batters have been successful playing the same attacking style.

“There’s no conversation around that [tempering down]. We definitely want to play an aggressive brand. If you look at our top three, that’s how they play. They normally set the tone for the rest of us. Abhishek was unlucky tonight, Ishan and Travis, on a different day, may have hit those balls for six. We understand that when we play this way, there may be failures, but hopefully, we can come to the party and perform more often than not,” said Vettori, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Furthermore, Daniel Vettori reflected on the season so far, saying that only a few teams have lost two games in a row this season. He also acknowledged that the team is still learning its combinations and remains optimistic about making a comeback despite the recent setbacks.

“If you look at the course of the 18 IPL seasons, there have been very few teams that haven’t lost two games in a row, particularly early in the season when teams are learning their combinations, especially in the first year after a big auction. We don’t want to be in this position, like any team, but we understand that every time we play, we come up against a very good team—well-planned teams with highly talented players,” Vettori added.

“There’s no reason why we can’t just turn up and win. We’ve got to perform—that’s the challenge for us after a very good first performance—and continue in the style we like. How we challenge ourselves to do it consistently is important,” the former Kiwi player concluded.
